Nouhou has reportedly signed a new Sounders contract extension, first reported by Niko Moreno of Pulso Sports and Sounder at Heart. Nouhou’s extension will be valid through the 2027/28 season and includes a club option for 2028/29.
Lyon of Ligue 1 reportedly showed interest in Nouhou, Moreno added, alongside other teams in and out of MLS.
Nouhou’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the 2026 season, and while the defender has always been keen on a move to Europe, this extension will ensure Nouhou’s Seattle future and high price tag in the event a club goes through with acquiring him.
Realistically, it would be highly unlikely that the 28-year old would move to another MLS team given his important role at the Sounders and has his ambitions to play in Europe, which he has been open about in the past.
Nouhou captained his country of Cameroon through their 2026 Africa Cup of Nations run to the quarterfinals where they were eliminated to eventual finalists Morocco. Nouhou started every game.
In the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Nouhou started two of the Sounders’ three games, against Botafogo and PSG, playing 135 minutes. Similar to Obed Vargas, who has been rumored to make a move to Europe in the future, Nouhou was able to be seen by the world’s top clubs and scouts.
During the 2025 MLS season, Nouhou started 28 games out of 30 total (including playoffs), playing 2471 minutes, scoring 1 goal (vs. St. Louis), and making three assists. During Leagues Cup play in the Sounders’ title-winning run, Nouhou started and played in four matches, playing for a total of 352 minutes and scoring in the club’s famous 7-0 win over Cruz Azul.
