Austin FC has announced the signing of Jon Bell for free after two years with the Sounders. Bell’s Seattle contract was valid for one year when he signed for the club in 2024, with his one-year club option being exercised to keep the defender in Seattle for 2025. However, now the Sounders will let Bell’s contract expire, as he will be joining Austin FC on a contract valid through the 2027/28 season, with an additional one-year club option on the table.
During his time with the Sounders, Jon Bell made 32 MLS appearances for Seattle, where he scored one goal and started in 19 of those games. Bell added a strong defensive presence to the backline and paired easily with other center backs. In Austin, Bell may have the opportunity to take on a more significant role compared to the mostly supportive role he played in the Sounders squad during the recent season.
