Cody Baker Loaned to New England

The loan will become a permanent deal if Baker meets certain performance criteria.

The Sounders have announced that Cody Baker has been loaned out to New England Revolution through the 2026 MLS season in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2027 MLS Superdraft. The loan may become a permanent transfer if certain performance metrics are met during Baker’s loan.

The deal states that if the loan becomes a trade, the Sounders will additionally receive $125k in General Allocation Money (GAM) and the 2027 first-round pick being pushed down into a 2028 MLS Superdraft second-round pick.

This loan deal may enable Baker to play more minutes and gain more experience. In the 2026 MLS Regular Season, 22-year-old defender started one game and substituted in two matches, registering 90 minutes in the team’s road victory against San Jose and played six minutes collectively in the fixtures against St. Louis City and FC Dallas. Baker also played a few minutes in the Sounders’ CONCACAF Champions Cup game against Tigres UANL.

Baker played and started six games for the Tacoma Defiance in the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season, where being in between first and second teams caused him to lose potential playing time with the Defiance as he traveled with the Sounders first team periodically during the first few months.
