Nico Lodeiro, the Sounders legend, has added another major piece of silverware to his collection after winning the Primera Division title with his boyhood club Nacional in early December 2025. Nacional defeated rivals Penarol 3-2 on aggregate, where Lodeiro came on as a substitute during extra time of the second leg. Lodeiro left MLS in the middle of 2025, returning to Uruguay, where the 36-year-old is expected to finish his career.
This title win marks Lodeiro’s second Uruguayan title with Nacional, first winning the league in 2008-09. Additionally, Lodeiro winning the 2025 title with Nacional marks his first championship trophy since winning the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League and first domestic championship since winning the 2019 MLS Cup with the Seattle Sounders.
Lodeiro moved away from MLS after seven years in Seattle from 2016 to 2023, one season at Orlando City SC in 2024, and a spell at Houston Dynamo in 2025. During Lodeiro’s seven years in Seattle, Lodeiro cemented himself as a club legend, where he made 191 appearances and scored 41 goals, alongside winning three major trophies and four MLS Western Conference titles. In his entire career, major trophy-wise, Lodeiro additionally won the 2011 Copa America with Uruguay, two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup with Ajax, one Argentinian Primera Division and Copa Argentina with Boca Juniors, and the Brazilian Campeonato Carioca with Botafogo.
